Hi everyone! To borrow a phrase from my dear 8-year-old, I’m super exited about this workshop. On my own it’s too easy to skim the surface of poems and I’m thinking a workshop like this will push me to discover more. I’m especially interested in uncovering the poet’s thought process that brought the work into being. What am I reading these days? Well, I’ve just finished Siddhartha by Herman Hesse as a beginning to my 2019 quest to learn more about Buddhism. Before that I finished Silas House’s wonderful new novel Southernmost (I highly recommend it). I’m also reading a book of prose poems by Jayne Ann Phillips called Sweethearts and the selected poems of Charles Simic. I try to write every morning for about an hour before going to work which goes pretty well unless there is a child or cat crisis underway. There’s always tomorrow!
